How often do you think weather affects you? Well for me, I believe it can but doesn’t always. It’s May now and according to the old adage, ‘April showers bring May flowers’, we should be basking in the flora surrounding us, the warm of the mid-spring sun soaking our faces…but we are not. At least in Boston, we are not!
I look forward to this time of year all year after what always seems like endless winters, and all too short autumns, spring is a welcome reminder that there will always be better days ahead. (June, July, and August in my book!) But it has been mostly dull, drab, cloudy, rainy, slightly chilly – in other words, not so sweet. I dream of getting that spring in my step back, despite ‘springing forward’ during an ice storm in March!
For me, winter and sometimes even late fall, make me lazy. I think of curling up with a book, laptop, or blanket, burrowing under a warm comforter, sipping hot chocolate with the melty marshmallows tickling the tip of my nose. I much prefer the spring temperatures that are perfect for running (which I definitely need to get back to, readers) and the summer days where relaxing on my porch with an iced lemon tea is the only chore on my mind.
But seasons change as do we and after an especially trying ‘late 2016, early 2017’, I am more than ready to forge ahead with the beautiful days that I desperately crave. In some ways, sunshine and happiness are the drugs we need to be prescribed, the pills not needed to swallow, the calm after the storm.
